Shortly after Darling Baby had his first birthday, I decided it was time to stop using a high chair.
So we went to Ikea and bought him a little table and some dishes.
We wanted him to learn to sit at a table for meals and we wanted him to have furniture that was his size. As you can see, he likes it very much!
At first he threw his food around and made a mess, and wanted to get up and wander around. But after a week or so of someone sitting with him for meals and modelling table manners, he was acting like a little gentleman at the table! We had him start using utensils around the same time. Sometimes he still ends up covered in yogurt, but learning is messy.
How long do you use a high chair for? What are mealtimes with your toddlers like?
I died of cuteness with these pictures! I have been thinking about buying my little boy a table his size–we just don’t have the space. But I love the idea of him making meal time something he is “responsible” (helping set his place) and something he can take ownership of. I’ll start looking at Craigslist for a little table!
Our room is very limited too Stephanie! We live in a 600 sq foot duplex! Really, it doesn’t take up much more room than a high chair. This table was $20 at Ikea. Thanks for reading!
