Until recently, women had few choices about what to read to prepare for childbirth and parenthood.  Mostly the ever-present “What to Expect When You’re Expecting”, which is not necessarily the best choice for women who desire to have a gentle birth with minimal interventions.  There are now many excellent books available to prepare the modern mother for the journey through pregnancy, labor and beyond. Some of these I read while I was pregnant, some of them I read shortly after and wished  I’d read while I was still pregnant, some of them came out after I had my baby and I plan to use the information for my next pregnancy.

These are books that emphasize traditional pregnancy diets, meditating on pregnancy and childbirth, minimal interventions, a Waldorf/Steiner approach to new babies and gentle parenting.  Whether you intend to have a home birth, a birth center birth, a birth in a hospital, or even a cesearean birth, these books will help you create a peaceful pregnancy, a birth with minimal interventions and a delightful babymoon.
